This feels authentic
Synopsis
During the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, Germany, an American sports broadcasting crew must adjust to live coverage of Israeli athletes being held hostage by a terrorist group. I love authentic historical dramas. Especially from the eras I lived in. It’s a story I’m familiar with and have seen told in various film formats over the years.
And metaphorical to the extreme
As stated in the title above, I found this one to be the most interesting. I saw Spielberg’s Munich in the theater years ago, and I remember still thinking it was a bit long and bloated. Even boring, I hate to say it. This version of events is more accurate, the film is shorter, and the time of the film is running out and lives are at stake.
Plus, the airtime
He’s in the control room of ABC’s Wide World of Sports when the tragic terrorist events during the 1972 Olympics in Germany occur. The cigarette is smoked. Rotary dial phones are used for communication. And a major crisis is unfolding in the Olympic village.
But the story is not pretty
A good history lesson for Generation Z. Even in the classroom, in high school and above, it is a proper history lesson. but it is rated R, so no. John Magaro and Ben Chaplin shine more with their excellent performances.
They could learn a little history
It is worth going to the movies. It would not be a bad idea to take your high school child to the theater for this purpose. Then they will come out with you and ask: Did this really happen?
